Have you ever imagined a planet of your own? The little prince did. He lived on a planet named B-612 alone.
He visited 6 neighboring planets where he met the lonely king, the self-conceit man, the drunkard, the industrialist, the lamp lighter and the geographer. The seventh planet he visited was earth. He met the fox and the snake there. He trained the fox. And the fox became his friend. At last, he met the pilot whose plane was broken and who landed in the desert. They talked together and had a happy time. The little prince told the story of him and his rose. During his visit, he changed his view of the world. And he found out that he was too young to understand the love behind his pride. Then he desired to leave the earth and go back to planet B-612 for he missed the planet and his rose so much. Finally, the little prince died with the help of the snake. His mind returned to his own planet.
The little prince told us that we could hardly see the essence of things only without the mind. What is really of important cannot be seen with the eyes.We will meet a lot of things like that. It seems that it is not enough to see with our eyes. We need to feel it with our hearts. For example, love, our parents love exactly. Who had seen the love? Neither you nor I. But when they cooked for us, bought clothes for us, set strict study habits for us, the love is there. They cooked food for us because they don’t want us be hungry. They brought clothes for us because they don’t want us to be cold. They set the strict study habits because they want us to be better. We cannot see the love, but love is everywhere.
The little prince told us our interpersonal relationship will be better if we keep being whole- hearted. If we help each other, talked together, do what we can do for the friends, your friends will be sincere you, too. We will be closer and closer.
The little prince also told us to maintain a childlike mind forever. No matter how old or where you are, you should keep warm, kind and interesting. A child is good at finding interesting things in the boring life. A child is also warm and kind. He is doing his best to help the people around him. Children are like this. Children’s lives are happy. So if we are childlike forever, we will happy forever.
The little prince told us a lot of things. We should keep studying from it. Thank you for your listening.
Good afternoon, dear teachers and students. I’m Jenny from grade six. Today, I want to say something about a book and my reading experience.
What book? Guess? It’s about a spider and a small pig. Yes! It is Charlotte’s Web, written by… Do you know the writer? Yes, E.B. White. It seems like many of you have read it before. This book is about a spider trying to save her pig friend. She did everything she could and finally succeeded. And the cost was her own life. I like this book. The words are simple and easy to understand. After reading this book, I was moved by the friendship between the spider and the small pig.
While when I look into the writer’s life, I love this book even more.In his real life, E.B. White couldn’t stand people killing pigs. He thought it was unfair. Cute and lovely pigs were made into smoked meat and bacon. It seemed like pigs were born to be killed. E.B. White was unhappy so he wrote the book. In his book, the small pig can live happily and forever.
I think the writer has a gentle and warm hear. So warm that it is strong enough to fight against fate. When I finished reading this book, I kind of miss the characters in the book. I want to talk to them, to be their friend. I also want to thank the writer, to bring us this book, to tell him not to be sad because we all love his story in which animals can live happily and forever.
This is a book full of love, love for animals, love for our friends. This book shows me what love is and how to love. I think that’s good books always do. I truly hope everyone can have love in their heart. With love, we can be anything.
That’s my sharing about the book. Thanks for your listening.
《The Old Man and the Sea》
My dear old man,
Though we are only separated by a wall, I think it is necessary for me to write a letter.
You have just returned from the sea. As before, I saw you and found you are as happy and deep as before, Some days before, my parents prevented me from your ship because your “salao”. Then you are alone on the sea for a long time. I really love the days we spent together, and here I have something to say. I always adored you, so now I want to tell you the reasons.
Firstly, I think you are a weather-beaten but still young man. Your eyes are like the sea and were cheerful and undefeated as Hemingway said. But I think they are rather like a seasoned big Marlin—-full of mystery and stubbornness, mysterious past and controlled future. I never thought of looking at your eyes. They are too sturdy to look. You have a lot of story, from the west to the east, though nobody on earth wanted to listen to you except me. You have lost your youth on some other place, and found your strength of youth on me or the sea—-trying everything and undefeated. Though it is surely that youth is ephemeral, but the spirit of carrying all the things can be found eternal.
As far as I am concerned, you taught me a lot of things though you did not go to school, either. Firstly, never think your life hard, there is always somebody whose life is harder than you. Everybody knows your life—-slept on the newspaper and ate only a little thing. I never try this. Secondly, do not believe in your luck but your act. Everybody thought you were thoroughly “salao” including me but at last you won. What is more, we should think more about what we have and less what we do not have. I heard that you always talked to yourself and marlin as you had friends but in fact you are alone. The things are limited, but thought are unlimited. Then, a good preparing is a half of success. You would not catch the marlin if you did not prepare. That is a fact. The last but not the least, never say never. The mankind will do everything if they have no reason to give up. In fact, it is not important the fish is alive or not. The important things are your actions. You caught a big fish at last. You are very brave, and you also do something that we never thought of.
Did you have a beautiful dream about the lion? Are you still disturbed by something? We did not want to disturb you. Just open your door when you awake. It is said that “colorful clouds spread easily”. But dark cloud can never hold the sky eternal, either. Though the days that dark clouds hold the sky are hard to see. But just enjoy the edge of light and heat. My parents allowed me to work with you again. Do not mind the things before, just remember it, there are a lot of things waiting for us to adventure. Just like you say “A man can be destroyed but not defeated”. Let us come on. Are the ephemeral clouds that appear on the sky of dawn beautiful? Enjoy your time please.
PS: We prepared a lot of sardines on the table beside you. You can spend time before you enjoy your clouds. I had mad a friend named Hemingway and we are just sitting on your boat and he is telling me something about you. He knows a lot of things for no reason. We are waiting for you. Please be here soon!
《Virtue is More Valuable than One Chocolate Factory》
Hello everyone, I am Morris. I from Class Gu Hongming Grade six. Have you eaten chocolate？What kind of chocolate do you like best? Now I will introduce a book to you. Its name is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Author of this book is Roald Dahl, a famous American writer.
In this novel, there was a boy named Charlie who lived in a small wooden house with his family. They were poor but happy. Charlie longed for chocolate, and his family could afford a bit of chocolate for him on his birthday. In the town, there was a mysterious chocolate factory owned by a man called Mr. Willy Wonka. It was the largest and most famous chocolate factory in the whole world. One day, Charlie got the last golden ticket from Mr. Wonka. The five lucky children including Charlie, were invited to visit his factory, and they would have enough chocolate to eat. Visiting the factory was an unusual experience. Finally, Charlie won a grand prize, Mr. Wonka gave him the chocolate factory. His whole family moved into the factory.
In this book, I was impressed by Charlie and his unusual experience of visiting the chocolate factory.
First of all, I like Charlie very much. He was a very kind and strong boy. Although he had a poor family, and he was always hungry, he really had a happy life with his family. He loved his family deeply. He also would like to share the birthday present-his favorite chocolate with his whole family. I think we can’t live without love, especially love from the family. Love can bring us strength and warmth. We can’t be selfish, and we should learn how to share with others.
Secondly, when they were visiting the factory, the other four children were just eating all the time or attempted to get everything they liked. So they were disqualified for the final prize because of greedy. But Charlie restrained himself, so he won the grand prize, and owned Mr. Wonka’s chocolate factory unexpectedly. I see, we should not be too greedy otherwise there will be bad results. Meanwhile, we should realize that we can’t just do what we want to do, we must obey the rules. I am proud of Charlie. I also learn from him.
That’s all for my introduction. I hope you like this book, too.
《The Spirit of Pavel Korchagin》
I have read a book called How the steel was tempered. It was written by a Ukrainian writer called Nikolay Alekseyevich Ostrovskiy .he was a great communism fighter. He used to be a Red Army soldier, and he took part in the Civil War of Soviet union. Unluckily, he was seriously injured in the battle in the autumn of 1920. He paralyzed in the next year. But his perseverance is amazing. He tired to write a novel called How the steel was tempered and it was arranged by his wife in 1933.
This novel tells the story about a hero named Pavel Korchagin. Shaped a ceaseless, Struggle image. As a boy, He left school early and then he joined the revolution fought with the enemy and left many wounds. After the war, he worked hard in his job until he was paralyzed and blind. Therefore he was disappointed to write a novel. It’s not easy for him, not only disablement, but also education. But he finally succeeded.
After reading this book, I was thinking about a question—what kind of life is meaningful? Pavel Korchagin made a perfect interpretation.
So, what kind of life is meaningful? In our daily life , there are many disabled people around us , but how many people “stand up”again with their strong will? However, Pavel Korchagin, such as misfortune disabled person. Although his physical mobility inconvenience, but he used his tenacious Perseverance to overcome. He wasn’t discouraged after the disability. He studied hard, and began to create literature. When the bad luck on him once again, the blind of his eyes almost crashed his mind. But he resolutely going ahead to write every word needs his hard work that people can’t imagine. Finally, he finished the few chapters of the novel Born in the storm of hardship. My heart has been deeply shocked when I read here. Pavel Korchagin, an ordinary warrior, had such a strong will like steel which is the strength to inspire him? I think that it is the greatest most magnificent cause of communism in calling him to create miracle again and again. This is the driving force of his tenacious, struggle against disease. This book was temped benefited me a lot.
There is a very famous passage in this novel, “The human most precious thing is the life, the life belongs to us only then one time. Human’s life must pass like this: When he looks back on the past event, he does not waste one’s best years.” I was influenced by Pavel and his story, many heroes like him appeared in that time.
After reading this book, I realized that a person’s perseverance is a great influence of his life. For example, Pavel’s life was rough, but how he made himself live? I think it is perseverance. Perseverance gave him infinite strength. He used to stand on the battlefield, killing enemy, left many wounds on his body, but still survived. Why? Or because of Perseverance, the young man became sick later, belt he still worked selflessly. Perseverance is a kind of spirit.
I think children in our age are living a happy life with clothes to hand, food to mouth. But they often shrink back when they met difficulties. As long as bravely fare the difficulties. We still find that we will also have Perseverance. That means, we should learn from Pavel, firm our ideals, establish correct world outlook, philosophy and viewpoint of value. Thanks for your listening!
Hello, everyone! I am X. I am 11 years old. I am in Class Confucius Two, Grade Six. Today, I will share a book with you. The title of the book is Elon Musk. The book is written by Ashlee Vance. Vance is a famous science reporter.
In this book, Vance records his dialogue with Musk. After about 40 hours’ talk, Vance got the information of Musk’s extraordinary journey in life, as well as his amazing story when he founded and ran his company. By talking with over 300 people, which includes Musk’s family, friends, and colleagues, Vance got to know the most real Musk with many details, such as his unique personality and ambition.
What impressed me most about the book is how Mush deals with the difficulty in SpaceX. They could not find a suitable place to launch the rocket. But finally, after carefully analysis, they chose the Kwajalein island had to use kwajalein island. Kwajalein island is made up of about 100 small islands. They found a way to turn the island full of palm trees and vegetation into a suitable launch pad. On top of that, they still had a lot of problems launching the rocket, but they always find a way to solve it.
Although the process was difficult, the results are fruitful. They finally did it. Musk once said, “Persistence is very important, never give up unless you have to.” Although musk’s SpaceX has advanced equipment, launching a rocket is not an easy task. Although they have experienced many failures, the failure didn’t affect Musk’s vision of the future. When SpaceX ran out of money, Musk became anxious. But he never showed that to his employees. Musk is making a miracle, and changing the future.
That’s all about my book report. Thanks for your attention.
《My favorite book》
Hello, my name is Annie. Today, I’m here to talk about my favorite book, I think everyone has their own favorite book. Good books are like a beacon, guiding us forward. They give us energy and let us be fearless. So now I’m gonna introduce my favorite book to you, let’s start.
My favorite book is called Pride & Prejudice, it’s written by Jane Austen. The story shows the British life in that time by describing the marriage problem, and it also tells us an amazing story about the pure love between two people. The main characters in that book are Bonnet’s five daughters. In a ball, Mr. Bingley fall in love with the eldest daughter, Jane, who is elegant and beautiful. Mr Bingley’s friend Darcy catches the fancy of the second daughter Elizabeth, who is out going and inner-directed. At first, they hated each other, but after a range of interesting troubles, the misunderstanding between the two people is finally removed. The plot of this book is very plain, but it catches my attention . In my opinion, this book tells a true love story. Besides love, the story let me know the truth that the true love is based on mutual respect between the two people. At the end of the book, each character in the book has a different ending. Some endings show the unfair of the society, and some endings tell us you should be responsible for your choice.
And now, I’m gonna introduce some of the famous sentences in this book. The first one is to be so easily seen through I am afraid is pitiful. Why is that? Because if you are easy to be seen through, all your weaknesses will be exposed, and people who wants to hurt you will easily succeed.
The second one is The more I see of the world, the more I am dissatisfied with it. There are many wicked things in this world, and we will know more about it with the age changing.
Sometimes we will be disappointed with this world. And we know we can’t change the society we live in, so we have to change ourselves. In the end, we will get a sense of accomplishment.
Now the last one is There is, I believe, in every disposition a tendency to some particular evil, a natural defect, which not even the best education can overcome. I really like this sentence, it tells us the truth that no one is perfect, even the genius, so we have to learn to accept each other, because everyone is fighting a hard battle, and everyone has weaknesses. So trying to be kind, then you will know we all deserve a good result at least once in our life.
Now this is the end of my speech, I hope you like it and learn something from it, thank you for listening. Do you have any questions or suggestions? Goodbye.
Have you ever tried to number the stars in the night sky? Look at this picture. Can you count the stars on it? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…Oh dear, I am getting dizzy already. So when I first got this book, saw its title and the picture of the girl on it, I thought it would be about children sitting on the grass on a peaceful summer night, counting the stars. I had never thought it would be about war, cruelty and a period of dark history, which has nothing to do with night skies streaked with twinkling stars. Let me tell the story to you now.
Annemarie Johansen was a little girl of ten. She lived in the cities of Denmark with her parents and her little sister Kirsti. Denmark had surrendered to Germany for a few years, and Nazi soldiers were standing in every corner on the streets. Annemarie was in no danger, but her Jewish friend Ellen Rosen surely was. Soon, the Nazis began their advance to arrest all the Jews in Denmark. That was when the Johansens decided to help the Rosens and as many Jews as they could. At first they tried to let Ellen pretend to be a member of the family, but Ellen’s disguise nearly failed, because her hair color was different from the Johansens’. So there was no other choice. Annemarie knew that more should be done to protect the Jews. She had to pluck up her courage and stand between the Nazis and her friend, and all the Jews in Denmark.
This story happened in 1940. After the Nazis took over Denmark, they had been trying to arrest all the Jews. And the Jews tried to escape across the sea to Sweden. Most of the local fishermen wanted to help. They smuggled them in their fishing boat across the sea. They piled dead fish on the deck, so the Nazi soldiers wouldn’t want to come aboard and search. But they also brought police dogs with them. The dogs could smell out the scent of people among the stink. To prevent this from happening, the Swedish scientists put a special powder in handkerchiefs, which could make the dog unable to detect anything for a short time.
The Johansens also joined the action. Annemarie and her family took the Jews to her uncle’s house near the sea, and tried to smuggle them over. But her uncle dropped the handkerchief halfway. So Annmarie had to take it to him. She met some Nazi soldiers on the way. She knew that she needed to face them bravely at that time.
She pretend to be bringing lunch to her uncle, but she had the handkerchief secretly hidden in the lunch basket. Acting silly, she got through their continuous questioning. It all seemed so easy, but oh how hard it really was!
If she hadn’t known how important the handkerchief was, maybe she would put it in her pocket just like any other little girl. She wouldn’t have to act at all. When her uncle told her that she was really brave, she didn’t understand why. She said that she’s been really scared. But what she didn’t know was: not to think about how dangerous it was. Just to think about the goal you’re heading to. And when you manage it, that is courage.
There is also courage in real life. Nowadays, our life is quite peaceful. We don’t have to have the sort of courage that Annemarie’s got. The small things we do in our life can also express our courage. If someone likes drawing, just trying a new material can be courage. It may ruin the whole picture, or it may make it better. Apologizing first after a quarrel is also a kind of courage. You may be embarrassed if that person still doesn’t forgive you, or maybe you will be friends again. Not turning to the last page to see the end before you finish your book is courage, still. All of these are small things, but who can say that they aren’t courage?
Now let’s go back to the picture I first showed you. As I had said it has nothing to do with real stars, but it must have a meaning. What do you think it is? Remember I talked about Jews being smuggled across the sea to Sweden? There were so many Jews and so many stars. Who could number the stars one by one? Who could number the Jews one by one?
Maybe you still haven’t got the meaning of the stars yet. If you want to know it you can read the book yourself. The author of this book is Lois Lowry. She is American. She has written over 20 novels before now. One of them is called The Giver. It has won the Newbury prize, same as Number the Stars. I advise you to read it as well.
Thank you for listening.
《Gravity Falls—A Fantastic Book》
Hello everyone, my name is Jasmine, I’m glad to be here to share my idea with you.
The book I want to talk about is a fiction book. It’s called Gravity Falls. The author is Alex Hirsch. Alex Hirsch was born on June 18, 1985. He is an American writer and actor.
The story happened in Gravity Falls, a fictional town in the US, it was like a normal town, but there were many supernatural things in the town. The residents were troubled by weird things from time to time.
In the story, here was a girl called Mabel Pines. Mabel was 12. She was an ancient, bright, lively and positive girl. She had a pig named Waddle. She thought it was her soul mate. She always wore all kind knitwear. Her favorite sign was a shooting star.
Dipper was Mabel’s twin brother. He was a bright, lively and adventurous boy. Dipper was his nickname. It came from the birthmark on his forehead that looked like the Big Dipper. Since he had been laughed for this, he always wore a hat. The sign on his hat was a pine tree.
Mabel and Dipper went to a remote origintown. The town’s name wasGravity Falls. There, their uncle, Stan, ran a tourist attraction “mystery Shack”.Mabel and Dipper experienced all kinds of unexpected adventurein its dense forest.
My favorite character is Bill Cipher, who was the most powerful villain in the story. The shape of him was a yellow triangle with a big hat and a bow tie. He could be summoned by spells and enter a person’s mind. Bill was put into the real world and then destroyed and changed the world of Gravity Falls. “Reality is just an illusion; the whole universe is just a hologram, buy gold.” It was one of his famous sayings.
I think it is a really great book. The consistent feature of the plot is a funny style with a little adventure and funny elements, which are very likable. At least after reading so many chapters, it did not give people a very boring feeling. Although each chapter is almost an independent story, in addition to a clue of each story, the main line of the whole story is also slowly advancing. I think this kind of narrative technique is very powerful.
The book is suitable for everyone, young and old. It is a very fascinating, humorous and legendary book, with good descriptions and attractive plot. When you read this book you will think “wow! I want to have adventure like this, it is so cool and so amazing and so awesome！”
Hope you enjoy my speech. Thank you for listening. Do you have any questions or suggestions?
《The Kite Runner》
Character: Amire, Hassan, The kite, Monologue(me), a boy.
The kite: Today is a very special day for all the people. They are competing for flying and chasing kites.
Hassan: Come on, Amire! There’s just one more kite and you can beat him.
Amire: Yes, I can make it, I can make it……(flying the kite)
Amire: Now, look at me.
Hassan: Yeah, and then it is the time for me to chase the kite. (Go chasing the kite that is falling down.)
Amire: Faster, Hassan! Run much faster! You have to make it!
Hassan: (turn round and exclaim) For you, a thousand times ever……
The kite: I love the wind flipping my face, the smell of grass and mud let me enjoy the flying, and how busy the city is…… I’m enjoying the feeling of how innocent and adorable their friendship is. Though Hassan is Amire’s servant, but I know that they’re just like brothers. Amire is the best kite flyer! Let me see, and there the boy with rabbit lip beside him is Hassan. The best kite runner and the best companion of Amire! They are also the best memory of each other. Hassan, come, chase me! You two are champions!
The boy: Well, good job Hassan. (with a scorn voice)
Hassan: Do not come near me. I have to bring back this kite to Amire……
The boy: Bring to Amire? Are you kidding me? (Laugh grimly)
The boy: Yeah, who is the boy using slingshot to shoot us? We have to solve this problem. Yes, Hassan?
Hassan: Please, I have to give this kite to Amire…… (Scared expression)
The boy: You want to give it to Amire? No way! Beat him.
The kite: I don’t know why they beat and attack Hassan. To my surprise, when I look around, I see Amire. Yes, it is Amire. He just looks at it, behind the wall. I really want to exclaim to let Amire give Hassan a hand, to help Hassan…… But, I can’t…… They can’t hear me. I can’t understand why their friendship become so easy to destroy. I can even imagine how heart-broken Hassan is. Not only just on his body, also in his heart. Poor boy…
The kite: At this time, “for you, a thousand times ever.” echoes in my mind! I know that people all make mistakes in their life. Some of it are big and some just very small. I know they would make up with each other later……
《The New Vision》
The book which I would like to recommend today is called The New Vision. The author, Laszo Moholy Nagy is one of the most outstanding artists and sculptors of the 20th century. He had taught at early Bauhaus[ˈbaʊhaʊs] in the 1920s. During that time, he created a new form of theory about material and space then named it “the new vision”. And that’s what this book is about.
You might think this book is too professional to understand, and actually it is. I found myself confused about all the descriptions even though I had read it for 3 times. However, I am still fond of it today, because it includes a great amount of pictures about students’ works and experiments, and those showed me a whole new way of using and observing ordinary materials.
Those two pictures (P61 and P65) on the screen are two examples of their experiments. This one on the left done by Lang shows the surface’s configuration of a piece of wood at different processing stages. Another is a sample of a wood block under treatments of different tools. They were both based on a valueless piece of wood, but what they focused on were not the same: the first one is a comparison between the structures of woods, and the other is about touches of different surfaces. There are a lot of similar experiments in the book, they made me notice the variety of the appearance of a material.
And this is the one that impressed me most (P69). This pretty and exquisite model was made of a single piece of paper. Schoniger who made this model created this space without any waste of material. After seeing their works, I was shocked by their creativity and imagination and realized how weak I was in these aspects.
“Some students spent long time on polishing and cutting woods and paper or make them into toys, and I consider this as a pleased achievement of our experiments.” Nagy said. Moreover, his words shows the education ideas of Bauhaus: “learning by doing”, which I think really suits me.
After reading The New Vision, I started to take pictures of lines and patterns from common items, and my interest in models and sculptures increased, soon the result came out—I made this model of the house by some useless scrapes, and I had great fun during making this. So I really appreciate what the book brings to me.
八年级孔子班 郭金梁 张幸纾
Good afternoon, everyone! I’m from Confucius Class, Grade 8. First I’d like to play a beautiful song for you. (Play the song)
Just as the song sings, “There’s no place like home.” And in the English language, they also say “Home is where the heart is.” Some even say “The family is one of nature’s masterpieces.” (George Santayana, American Philosopher and poet)
We Chinese attach even greater importance to home and family. And there are many famous sayings and proverbs about home in Chinese, too. For example:
East or west, home is the best.
A peaceful family will prosper.
A country has its laws and a family its rules.
We all have our homes, right? But do you really realize the importance, beauty and warmth of your home? Maybe yes, maybe no. Distance creates beauty. Let’s welcome my classmate Lisa Zhang to lead us to appreciate the beauty and warmth of home with Tagore.
I paced alone on the road across the field,
While the sunset was hiding its last gold like a miser.
The daylight sank deeper and deeper into the darkness,
And the widowed land, whose harvest had been reaped, lay silent.
Suddenly a boy’s shrill voice rose into the sky.
He traversed the dark unseen, leaving the track of his song across the hush of the evening.
His village home lay there at the end of the waste land, beyond the sugarcane field, hidden among the shadows of the banana and the slender areca palm, the coconut and the dark green jackfruit trees.
I stopped for a moment in my lonely way under the starlight, and saw spread before me the darkened earth surrounding with her arms countless homes furnished with cradles and beds, mother’s hearts and evening lamps, and young lives glad with a gladness that knows nothing of its value for the world.
After reading so many fictions, novels, poems, plays and essays, it is pretty hard to choose one favourite to share. It took me a week to think about what to talk about. While I was confused about choosing books, an idea suddenly hit me.
When we are talk about reading, what exactly are we talking about? Fictions, novels, poems, plays and essays, those are what I would recall about reading. However, there is something we ignore or completely forget — textbooks about maths, science, literature, geography and so on. Honestly, who will concern about textbooks when one is talking about reading? But how can we deny that reading textbooks is not reading? We do look through those words patiently and try to understand what it tells us, that is exactly what we do while we are reading other books. Therefore, textbooks should also be concluded in the book list of what you have read.
Excluding those boring textbooks which our teachers repeat for a thousand times and we are all tired of, there are still some textbooks what are different from them. Lately, I have been reading Gateways to Psychology, which is also called An Introduction to Mind and Behavior. Some universities and colleges use the book as textbook when students start to learn about psychology. As being used as an introduction, it must be interesting so that it can easily attract readers’ attentions. Here is an example:
In psychology, there is a term called “pseudo[ˈsjuːdəʊ] psychology”. It also explains human behaviors, but those explanations go against scientific concepts, normally we call it superstition. There are three ways to explain how pseudo psychology works: uncritical acceptance, confirmation bias and Barnum[ˈbɑ:nəm] effect. People’s recognition of the zodiac is a typical type of uncritical acceptance: when a claim seems to be right and fit anyway, people tend to believe it, they cannot resist flattering. And according to confirmation bias, people would only remember those pieces of information which relate to them and ignore other information that they never expect. Barnum effect means using general words to describe in order to make people feel that the statement is accurate.
The book also gives vivid examples to explain those definitions: “You are charming somehow, though you have some defects. You prefer thinking independently, you will not accept others’ opinions if they do not think something through. Actually you are introverted, but sometimes you like showing off and being active.” Can you see how pseudo psychology works now?
Through such a long speech, all I want to tell you is: please do not consider textbooks as something boring, it can also be extracurricular reading materials that widen your knowledge.
《Charlie and Chocolate Factory》
六年级孔子1班 舒奥杰 林楷伦
Hello, everyone. My name is Shu Aojie. And my name is Lin Kailun. We are from Class one, Grade six. We are very honor to come here to share the book — Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We hope you will like it.
Here is the story: Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Charlie. He was poor. Every day near his house he could see a factory: the most famous chocolate factory in the world. He liked it very much.
One day, the owner of that factory called Willy Wonka made an announcement, that is, five children who got the golden tickets would be allowed to visit his factory. A few days later, Charlie became the fifth lucky child.
When that day came, Charlie together with other 4 children went into the factory under the guidance of Willy Wonka. They were surprised to find that everything in the factory was made of chocolate and candies, even the river.
The first child, named Augustus Gloop who loved eating, wanted to drink chocolate and then fell into the chocolate river by accident. The second one, called Willit Borregad who enjoyed chewing gum, was turned into a big blueberry because she wanted to eat the gum machine. The third one, named Veruka Salt who wanted to catch the squirrel, was pushed into the garbage slide by the squirrels. The forth one, called Mike Tivey who was addicted to watching TV, was turned into a small man in TV. At last, Wonka found Charlie was kind-hearted and filled with love so he gave the chocolate factory to Charlie.
In this book, there are 6 main characters, including 5 children, Charlie, Mike, Veruka, Willit and Angustus. They have different personalities.
Augustus is so greedy that he falls into the chocolate river. The second child, Willit, is aggressive, that is to say, she loves to win. She chews gum for the purpose of honor. Veruka who is spoiled by her parents wants everything. Mike is addicted to TV and tends to show himself off. All of these children would like to do what they like and don’t know what kindness is. The most important thing in their mind is to win the honor. Now, let’s talk about Charlie. Charlie is a very kind boy. He is willing to share his only one chocolate with his families because he loves his family. Though his family is poor, they live a happy life. The other 4 children are spoiled by their parents so they are selfish.
Mr. Wonka gives Charlie his factory on the condition that Charlie can’t see and live with families anymore. He refuses Mr. Wonka without hesitation. Because in his mind, families are the most important. He will not abandon his families for the sake of money. We should learn from Charlie. In our daily life, we are supposed to respect and take care of our families and do what they ask us to do.
Love can’t be measured by money. The people whose hearts are filled with love are the happiest in the world.
《The Little Girl at the Window》
Hello, everyone! My name is Francis. I am 11 years old. I am in Class Confucius Two, Grade Six. In my free time, I like playing basketball best. Today, I am going to share with you a book called The Little Girl at the Window.
This book reflects principal Kobayashi and his school and his education through the eyes of as little girl. The general content of the book is: Once upon a time, there was a little naughty girl named Little Peas. Her mother keeps looking for school for her every day. As time passes by, they find Ba Xue Yuan which is a “strange” elementary school. The classroom of Ba Xue Yuan is made by street car. The education style there is quite special: the students can take classes they like. Little Peas likes studying there very much. Little Peas soon integrates into the big family and has a good time there. But in the end, it was blown up.
After reading The Little Girl at the Window, I think Little Peas is a naughty and a lovely girl. I realized that the educational style of Ba Xue Yuan is advanced. Few schools provide such an educational environment as the Ba Xue Yuan. A good primary school must develop the nature of children and then make them fall in love with learning. And Ba Xue Yuan did it.
In our real life, many schools only focus on the scores of tests. It seems that the only propose of study is to get higher scores instead of developing students’ ability of learning. So I think Ba Xue Yuan and its education style in this book is quite precious. And our school Globe, is a school just like Ba Xue Yuan. We study here, we have fun here, we take classes we like here. I hope our school will get better and better.
That’s all about my book report. Thank you for your listening.
